Cultural heritage kept alive
Reinhekla was founded by Jon Fredrik Skauge in 2008. The name comes from the processing of flax. The finest flax fibres left once the flax has been heckled are reinhekla, and the word also means genuineness and honesty. From the family farm Fannremsgården, Reinhekla shares knowledge of textiles, the Norwegian bunad and dress traditions, all grounded in historical sources, and recreates old garments as they once were. Jon Fredrik is a historian, bunad maker and farmer, and still grows and processes flax on the farm. In 2025 he received a one-year working grant from Arts and Culture Norway to study exactly this.

The farm
Fannremsgården
An idyllic farmyard with a storehouse, barn and traditional Trøndelag longhouse, southwest of Trondheim. Archaeological finds show that people have lived here since the early Middle Ages, and the Skauge family has run the farm for four generations. Today the farm produces traditional food made by old methods.

The shop
Step inside the yard
Inside the yard you will find the small shop Reinhekla. Here are intriguing crafts and traditional handwork, hand-sewn bunads and modern garments that tie the old and the new together. Drop by for a quiet moment, see the craft up close and have a chat.
Opening hours vary through the year. See Facebook for current times, or get in touch before you come.

Knowledge
Courses, talks and bunad
Jon Fredrik is a sought-after speaker and an authority on textiles, the bunad and dress customs. Reinhekla offers talks, courses and guidance, and takes on the reconstruction and sewing of historical garments and bunads. Get in touch if you would like a visit, a talk, or help with your bunad.

Food and tradition
The taste of old knowledge
Butter, sour cream, porridge and home-baked flatbread made the way it was done in the old days. The food at Fannremsgården builds on recipes and methods handed down on the farm, and is an important part of the cultural heritage we look after.
